The British Security Industry Association’s Information Destruction section will be exhibiting at the upcoming Information Commissioner’s Office’s Annual Data Protection Practitioner Conference.
The event, which will be held at the Manchester Central Convention Complex on Monday 14th March, provides data protection practitioners with an opportunity to raise questions, hear presentations on a range of topical issues and attend a variety of relevant seminars.
Running alongside the busy seminar programme, will be an information market where organisations involved in activities that are relevant to the Data Protection Act will be exhibiting.
The BSIA’s Information Destruction section will have expert representatives on hand throughout the course of the day to provide advice and guidance on secure data destruction.
Principle of the Data Protection Act
Chairman of the BSIA’s Information Destruction section, Adam Chandler, explains: “Under the seventh principle of the Data Protection Act, a business must take appropriate measures against accidental loss, destruction or damage to personal data and against unauthorised or unlawful processing of the data. To fully comply with the Act, a data handler must have a written contract with a company capable of handling confidential waste, which can provide a guarantee that all aspects of collection and destruction are carried out in a secure and compliant manner. To ensure this, suppliers should comply with the European Standard BS EN 15713:2009 for security shredding and also BS 7858 for staff vetting.
“Representatives of our section will be present at this year’s Data Protection Practitioner Conference to help delegates understand the importance of securely disposing confidential material in line with the Data Protection Act.”
Delegates wishing to find out more information about information destruction services, or looking to find a reputable supplier that complies with both BS EN 15713 and BS 7858, should visit the BSIA on stand number 19.
