SMi announces Linda Schucroft, Director, Innovative Travel Solutions, Vancouver Airport Authority will be speaking on Day One of SMi’s 9th annual Border Security Conference which takes place in Rome, Italy, on the 17th-18th February 2016.

Linda’s presentation entitled ‘Decreasing Wait Times and Strengthening Border Security Using Technology’ will cover how to use self-service border technology to reduce immigration wait times and increase border security as well as how a kiosk-based self-service border solution can be used for any jurisdiction.

Finding solutions for migrant crisis

Border Security 2016 will gather over 100 top decision makers from military and government sector and solution providers from all over the world, including Austria, Denmark, Egypt, France, Gibraltar, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom.

This event will devote a day to discussing the potential resolutions and difficulties of the current migrant crisis and sessions will be delivered by the key organisations, who will also be participating in interactive panel discussions.

Rear Admiral (Ret'd) Massimo Annati, Former Head of the International Matters at the Naval Armaments Directorate, Italian Navy. Chairman of Border Security 2016 Conference, commented: "With the continuing instability in North Africa and the Middle East there is a greater focus on Europe's external borders, particularly in Italy, Spain, Greece and surrounding Mediterranean countries. With this in mind, Rome is the most appropriate location for this critical forum and the event will take place with the support of Italian Navy".

As well as a strong focus on the current migrant crisis, Border Security 2016 will also address humanitarian perspectives, counter terrorism, airport security and much more. Sessions will focus on how this can be reduced, whether it be modern technologies, greater collaboration or a larger security presence at the border.
