Kenneth Hune Petersen has a simple plan for every day: “Get out of bed. Be awesome. Go to bed.” That’s how the upbeat Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of Milestone Systems described his typical day during the interview for his current position. Before coming to Milestone (and the video surveillance industry) in 2014, he was senior vice president and head of global sales at SimCorp, a global provider of investment management software and services. SourceSecurity.com Editor Larry Anderson caught up with him to find out more:

How did you come to work in the security industry?

Lars Thinggard (Milestone President and CEO) contacted me. I had just returned from 10 years in the United States working with my former employer, another Danish software company. It was a good match because 50 percent of Milestone’s revenue is in the United States.

What is the best professional advice you have received (and from whom)?

Flemming Tamstorf, CEO of my former company, showed me by example that you should never tell anyone “See, I told you so.” He never did it himself. If you play to the limit, there is a risk that you will fail. If you’re taking a risk, things can go wrong. And he never said “I told you so.”

What's something few people know about you?

I was a Danish champion in ballroom dancing.

What's the most rewarding thing about what you do for a living?

Coaching people and seeing the joy when they succeed.

Kenneth Hune Petersen's most recent vacation was in Majorca, Spain

What are your interests outside security?

I love to play golf, but I’m not very good at it. I’m playing now with my sons (ages 8 and 12), which is quality time away from traveling and business meetings. You can get your mind on something totally different. It’s a great way of bonding.

Where was your last vacation?
Recently we were in Majorca in Spain, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea.
