Allegion, a provider of security products and solutions, and Sielox collaborate to improve perimeter security in K-12 schools. Sielox is the first to integrate with Allegion’s Von Duprin Remote Undogging (RU) and Remote Monitoring (RM) options, expanding the reach of electronic access control. These latest Von Duprin solutions were created in response to a need for enhanced perimeter security in educational facilities.

In many K-12 schools, a majority of security funds are focussed on the front entrance, leaving secondary openings vulnerable. Without electronic access control, these openings may be left unlocked or propped open, compromising security and limiting a school’s ability to effectively lockdown the facility in response to an emergency. It’s recommended that schools implement a layered security approach as a best practice. Layered security works from the outside in to protect critical assets, with perimeter security being one of the layers.

With the Von Duprin RU and RM options, we are hoping to help fill the gaps to build a safer and more secure perimeter within budget"

Remote undogging and monitoring

When integrated with Pinnacle, Sielox’s premier access control and security management software, end users in the K-12 market are able to initiate remote undogging from a secure location, which reduces the time and risks associated with manually touring a facility. And remote monitoring provides customers with peace of mind.

School security has been a pressing topic in the media lately, but protecting the safety and security of students and faculty has always been a priority for Allegion,” said Yong Lacy, Allegion category leader, openings. “Heightening security at the main entrances can reduce security funds for the rest of the building. With the Von Duprin RU and RM options, we are hoping to help fill the gaps to build a safer and more secure perimeter within budget. And we’re proud to have Software Alliance Members like Sielox to make this possible for schools.

The RU connects via BLE to the ENGAGE Gateway, providing real-time, bi-directional communication to the Sielox Pinnacle software and 1700 Intelligent Controller

Von Duprin RU retrofit kit

The Von Duprin RU retrofit kit for exit devices is a cost-effective solution for these secondary openings that enables remote undogging for centralised lock down and door status monitoring with integrated request to exit (RX), latch bolt (LX) and door position switch (DPS) signalling capabilities. The RU connects via BLE to the ENGAGE Gateway, providing real-time, bi-directional communication to the Sielox Pinnacle software and 1700 Intelligent Controller.

RU is a modular battery powered kit that can be added on to existing 98/99 and 33A/35A series devices. The RM option is the sensor-only configuration for exit-only or fire-rated doors that require monitoring. It provides visibility to door status with the same RX, LX and DPS signals as the RU, without the centralised lockdown component.

Video surveillance for comprehensive security

The latest integration with Allegion expands our options available to the K-12 market,” said Karen Evans, Sielox president and CEO. “In addition to undogging and remote monitoring capabilities with the Von Duprin RU and RM, Sielox’s access control systems can be integrated further to include components such as video surveillance for a comprehensive security solution.

Sielox will feature the integration at booth #7103 during the International Security Conference and Exposition (ISC West 2018), held April 11-13 in Las Vegas, Nev. Additionally, the Von Duprin RU and RM options will be included in the new product showcase and Allegion’s booth (#20043).
