In collaboration with Tetra operator Stadtwerke München, Airbus Defence and Space will support the Conference from 2016 to 2018
German Army personnel & conference staff will be able to use the radio technology for the entire duration of the Munich Security Conference

Airbus Defence and Space has been awarded a three-year contract to run a secure digital Tetra private mobile radio network during the Munich Security Conference. In collaboration with the Tetra operator Stadtwerke München (the municipal utility operator), Airbus Defence and Space will be supporting the Conference from 2016 to 2018.

Secure radio communication technology

The Munich Security Conference, initially launched in 1963, has become the pre-eminent conference in the field of foreign and security policy over the past decades. Each year, it provides high-ranking policy makers from all over the world with a forum for discussing current and future security policy issues. Numerous prominent political and business guests from Germany and abroad are once again expected at the conference. To ensure the security of the participants from the political, economic and media sectors, Airbus Defence and Space and the Tetra network operator Stadtwerke München will equip the venue with cutting-edge secure radio communication technology.

Especially for the conference, Airbus Defence and Space is to connect a separate base station (TB3c) to the existing radio network of Stadtwerke München. Therefore, German Army personnel and the conference staff will be able to use the radio technology for the entire duration of the event. As a result of heightened requirements, the radio system will have enhanced security levels, such as authentication and radio interface encryption.

Stadtwerke München will also once again be providing conference employees with TH1n Tetra radios, the smallest in the world, from Airbus Space and Defence. These devices are particularly suitable for concealed use and have been used successfully at the Munich Security Conference for several years now.
