The local Police Department of Xi-An province in China has chosen ACTi network video server, SED-2120T, as a first-stage remote monitoring solution for the oil field and factory in their district.  Chang-Chin oil field belongs the enterprise that runs large-scale oil field under PetroChina Limited in Xi'an.  The whole oil field and factory are controlled directly by the local Police Department, who has been looking for a good and stable video quality for real-time monitoring which can overcome the restrain of distance.  Co-using their existing analogue speed domes with ACTi network video server, SED-2120T has saved them a lot of budget to gain IP solution.

Given the extensively of the oil field, each camera site is very far apart.  19 analogue speed domes were spread throughout the oil field, each connected to a video server, SED-2120T, which can sustain temperature form -30oC ~ 70oC.  The video stream and RS-485 data are first transmitted from each analogue speed dome to the video server beside, and then via LAN, all the video and data were passed on to the remote control centre via the optic fibre of 1G bandwidth.  SAN is located at the control centre to record the video image of 19 speed domes and simultaneously distribute them via Internet to different monitoring sites.  The administrator at the local police station can therefore do real-time monitoring of the whole district via the network and take action immediately whenever emergency occurs.  And the director of the factory can also realise long-range supervision whenever and wherever possible so long as there is an access to network.

The network video products of ACTi offer Full D1 resolution ratio (720*576) up to 30 frames / per second.  With MPEG-4 ASP compression technology, it takes up very little bandwidth but enables much bigger room for memory storage if compared with those using M-JPEG or JPEG 2000 technology.  ACTi network video server (encoder) makes it possible to easily integrate with different kinds of PTZ cameras through RS-485 serial port.  This successful hybrid solution implementation have not only significantly reduced the installation cost of coaxial cables but allowed great flexibility if the factory wish to add up more cameras, or replace and adjust speed domes in use.
