NS turned to Dedicated Micros and its TransVu digital video recorder - specifically designed for transport applications - to conduct a mobile CCTV surveillance trial. Initially TransVu units were installed in 8 Sprinter type trains on the busy Zoetermeer Stadslijn (City Line), each featuring 14 cameras and 2 recorders.
Said Frank Meeuwens, Account Manager for Scandinavia and Benelux at DM: “We are delighted to have secured the Award for the Netherlands Railways project. The results from the Dutch trial of the TransVu system were extremely positive - 60% of commuter train passengers felt safer with digital recorders and cameras installed and vandalism fell by 45%. This success has lead to the expansion of the TransVu solution to every double train on the route”
In addition to high quality MJPEG recording, TransVu has been recently enhanced to offer low-bit rate MPEG-4 transcoding transmission over limited bandwidth networks. TransVu is based on the innovative ‘NetVu Connected’ software technology launched at IFSEC this year.
To underline TransVu’s capabilities, DM also took its powerful mobile CCTV system on the buses at IFSEC, following an exclusive deal which saw units fitted to vehicles transferring visitors to and from the car parks, giving DM the ability to showcase live transmission of in-vehicle images to its stand, via GPRS.
Featuring an extremely durable and compact design with a sealed recorder unit suspended via aerospace grade mountings to withstand in-vehicle vibrations, TransVu is ideally suited for installation in a wide range of vehicles including: taxis, vans, buses, trains and heavy goods vehicles.
In operation, TransVu is capable of multiplexing and recording from up to 8 cameras while simultaneously handling 2 channels of audio, responding to panic alarms, processing GPS co-ordinates via SMS text messages to instantly transmit its location to a central point and using intelligent power management.
