Cloud and Mobile Computing white paper provides clear definitions and model reference architecture for cloud-based security applications
The paper defines the group’s vision of cloud and mobility solutions

The Security Industry Association (SIA) Standards Committee this week announced the first deliverable of the recently formed Cloud and Mobility Working Group: an industry white paper that explores the impact of the cloud on physical security.

The paper, available as a free download from the SIA website, defines the group’s vision of cloud and mobility solutions as a technology and business driver for the industry, provides clear definitions and model reference architecture for cloud-based security applications, and outlines several cloud and mobility candidates for standardisation.

Standardisation candidates include a cloud security reference model, mapping of components to this model, and a common cloud session establishment framework for physical security products. Alongside this discussion of standardisation subjects, the paper includes several established best practices from the information technology world that can be applied to physical security. Chaired by Steve Van Till, president and CEO of Brivo Systems, the Cloud and Mobility Working Group will take the lead on many of these proposed standardisation candidates and will soon organise task forces for these activities.

Cloud services and mobility are technologies with applications in all areas of physical security, so the working group is looking for broad participation in developing cloud and mobility standards for physical security. Anyone interested in participating in the SIA Standards Cloud and Mobility Working Group is encouraged to email Joe Gittens, director of SIA Standards, at jgittens@siaonline.org.
