Nedap launches a new activity - ‘Nedap Mobility Solutions’ - within its business unit ‘Identification Systems’. Nedap Mobility Solutions enables people and vehicles in urban environments to swiftly and safely reach their destinations.

The portfolio of Nedap Mobility Solutions comprises wireless vehicle detection sensors to assist motorists in quickly finding a parking bay and parking operators to optimise the utilisation. Moreover, city access control systems keeps pedestrians in shopping zones safe while ensuring taxis, police and ambulances can fulfill their tasks.

Over the years Nedap has contributed to the optimisation of traffic flows in hundreds of cities and similar environments, such as university campuses and large airports. “There is a growing demand for traffic flow optimisation systems. However, this requires a specific set of skills, methodology and vocabulary to successfully implement these in demanding urban environments. With the introduction of Nedap Mobility Solutions, we will bring together all activities related to traffic flow optimisation in such environments. Our portfolio includes our system for wireless vehicle detection (SENSIT) and our system for city access control,” states Maarten Mijwaart, General Manager of Nedap Identification Systems.

“We expect to expand and improve our systems for mobility in urban environments in the near future. The current interest in intelligent transport systems (ITS) in combination with upcoming technologies, such as the Internet of Things, offers numerous opportunities to address the mobility challenges of smart cities. We are at the dawn of a new era in which we will solve the mobility challenges of our ever growing urban environments. Nedap Mobility Solutions can contribute to this solution, with promising ITS concepts and ready-to-use products that help solve the mobility challenges of today,” says Edwin Siemerink, Proposition Manager of SENSIT.

The activities related to long-range and automatic identification of vehicles and people using RFID and ANPR will remain under the scope of Nedap Identification Systems.
