Measures are taken to prevent the function of fire stairs in buildings and workplaces against the possibility of theft; cause life-threatening events to occur.
Keeping the fire escape doors locked prevents people from evacuating in the face of a possible fire hazard. Making statements on the subject, Tepe Security General Manager Özgür Gök said that the fire escape stairs, which should be used for the safe evacuation of the people in the building, are one of the most basic elements of security.
Fire doors locked during emergencies
Gök pointed out that they saw that a significant part of the circular type fire escapes, which are preferred with the new generation building projects, are closed with iron bars or locked in a way that does not allow escape in case of emergency.
Stating that the researches have shown that the probability of a fire in daily life is not as low as it is thought, Gök said, “According to the data of the Ministry of Interior, a total of 102 thousand 743 thefts occurred throughout Turkey in 2017. When we look at the fire department statistics of the same year, we see that the number of structural fires that took place only in Istanbul is 16,933. In addition, we see that about half of the fires in question occur in residences.”
Compliance with Standards for fire escapes
Security measures; underlining that it should be planned considering both fire hazard and theft events, Gök emphasized that the rules in the relevant regulations should be followed in this context.
The relevant regulation includes all legal standards set for fire escapes being used for the safe and speedy evacuation "
Gök said, “A possible fire hazard; the measures to be taken before and during the fire, to minimise the loss of life and property and ensure that it is extinguished, are clearly stated within the scope of the current regulation."
"The relevant regulation includes all legal standards set for fire escapes being used for the safe and speedy evacuation of people in the building in case of emergency. While complying with the standards determined to protect human life makes it necessary to have doors that open outwards, with panic bars and made of fire-resistant materials.”
Using video alarm systems
Emphasizing that theft can be prevented without keeping the fire escape door locked, Gök said, “Tepe Video Alarm Systems are one of the most important examples of this. In homes and workplaces; this system, which is preferred to avoid possible security hazards; offers the chance to take precautions against thieves before they get inside."
"Thanks to the system; in cases where you want to control your home or are worried about the safety of your children, you can view your living space via mobile phone or tablet. It also allows you to share your alarm records with the security forces or your insurance company when you want to provide concrete data about fire or theft events.”
Working of Tepe Security Video Alarm Systems
Video motion detectors, which are also used in fire doors, take a 10-second video of the event and transmit the relevant images to the Tepe Alarm Monitoring Centre when a situation threatens security. The operators working at the centre also analyse the footage, inform the law enforcement officers in case of any threat of theft, and ensure that the law enforcement officers are directed to the home or workplace where the incident took place.
