Iris ID, a global provider of iris recognition technology, announced its iCAM 7S series has been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under license number R-41110639, the national standards-setting body for India. The recently mandatory BIS certification attests to the safety, quality and reliability of electronic, medical, construction and other many other commercial and consumer products.
The iCAM 7S series and other company products are extensively used by India’s Unique Identification Authority as part of the country’s national identity program. Registrations, known as Aadhaar numbers, are used for Indians to apply for a passport, obtain a driver’s license, receive social services and many other daily activities. More than 1 billion citizens are enrolled in the program.
Used for access control, time and attendance
Once a product has passed BIS certification, manufacturers may use the agency’s mark on products used in IndiaMohammed Murad, vice president global sales and business development, Iris ID, said the BIS certification is similar to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards found throughout the world and the CE mark used in Europe.
“We’re pleased to have received BIS certification as India is a very important market for Iris ID,” he said. “Our products are used not only by government agencies, but also by many commercial organisations.”
Once a product has passed BIS certification, manufacturers may use the agency’s mark on products used in India. Iris ID authentication systems are currently used worldwide for access control, time and attendance, national ID programs, border crossings, voter registration and many other applications.
