Florianópolis-Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN), commonly known as Floripa Airport, is the main airport serving the second largest city in Santa Caterina in the South of Brazil. The airport welcomes about 3.5 million passengers annually and is operated by Zurich Airport Brasil, a company of the Zurich Airport Group.
While the group ensures the airport is secure, and passengers are safe, they also focus efforts on providing a top-notch leisure and shopping experience. This ensures passengers enjoy visiting and returning to Floripa Airport year after year.
The challenge
In 2017, Zurich Airport Brasil was awarded a 30-year contract to oversee the management and operations of the Floripa Airport as well as the airports in Macaé and Vitória. The team knew they wanted to introduce a unique vision of leisure and innovation to the airport experience in Brazil.
To make that happen, they first wanted to upgrade and unify their security technology. This would serve as a foundation to better secure the airport, as well as to collect valuable data to enhance the retail experience and other business operations over time.
The solution
- Unifying security in one platform
Everything from video and access management and alarm monitoring to credential issuance and reporting happens within Genetec™ Security Center. This has enhanced efficiencies across all operator tasks.
- Enhancing risk management with analytics
Using video analytics within Security Center, the team receives automatic notifications of potential risks such as objects left behind. This ensures they remain proactive in addressing any security concern.
- Simplifying monitoring with maps
The team works from the map interface, Plan Manager, to respond to alarms and zoom in on camera views. This helps them quickly see what’s happening and mitigate any issues.
Security Centre unified platform
Everything is much more actionable and automated, which has helped us become more efficient"
“We opted for the Security Centre unified platform to have all our systems connected within one solution."
"Everything is much more actionable and automated, which has helped us become more efficient," Kleyton Mendes, Airport Executive Manager, Zurich Airport Brasil.
Results
- Built-in analytics
Currently, the Zurich Airport Brasil team uses Security Centre to manage 510 cameras and 210 access points at the Floripa Airport. They’re also using built-in analytics to automatically detect risks such as objects left behind across the airport.
More recently, they’ve installed a few AutoVu™ automatic licence plate recognition (ALPR) cameras to streamline and secure access for employee parking.
- Automate reporting
Using the unified security platform, the team has better control over the management and issuance of employee and contractor credentials.
They have also been able to automate reporting to improve management and monitoring tasks and enhance the security of critical environments. According to Mendes, “The system is user-friendly, dynamic, and has a very intuitive interface. It makes everything easier.”
