Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham, the flagship hospital for the Heart of England NHS Trust, has chosen Castel to supply an IP-video intercom solution throughout its large modern hospital estate. Recently updated in 2000 to a 737-bed capacity, the hospital is still being developed with new and upgraded buildings, services and security systems.
Lyrico, the system installers, recommended an external intercom solution from Castel’s CAP IP product range to the Hospital Trust, one that could easily be added to the hospital’s IP backbone network. The hospital required an intercom system that was future-proof and which had a range of intercom stations to provide solutions for different areas of the estate. A final requirement was that the solution needed to be able to interface seamlessly with an IP telephone system in the future. This made Castel’s open SIP solution using the CAP IP intercom range ideal for this particular project.
CAP IP Intercoms were installed as Help Points within the new multi-storey car park and also at the automatic barrier gates. Two intercoms were also installed at the goods delivery gates. All of the calls are directed to the CAP IP master handsets in the on-site security control room. In total, 17 audio and video intercom stations have been installed.
“Value for money was paramount for the success of the whole project,” said Stuart Hibberd, Castel’s Sales Director. “We delivered the project in partnership with the installer, on time and on budget, which further demonstrates our market-leading position within the hospital sector.”
