Ganz surveillance equipment has been installed to help protect a football stadium in Cyprus.  The new CCTV system, which is keeping watch over the 10,000-capacity Antonis Papadopoulos venue in Larnaca - home to Anorthosis FC - has been installed by Ganz distributor Wave Electronics, which is also a systems integrator.

Wave Electronics' Sales Manager, George Socratous, explains that the Cyprus Sports Organisation commissioned the Ganz system as part of an upgrade of protective measures at other similar venues on the island, to combat incidents of violence and vandalism. But the move has also had another, positive benefit: the stadium recently gained UEFA approval to host European matches.  "The surveillance measures we've introduced played a big part in enabling the stadium to win this approval", Mr Socratous reports.

Multi-faceted system

The CCTV system comprises a range of Ganz equipment, including internal and external dome cameras, digital video recording units, matrix and telemetry controllers and monitor screens.  A new control room has been constructed to operate the system and police operators have already made a number of arrests using the system.

Among the Ganz equipment that's been installed are ZC-PT indoor and outdoor functional dome cameras, which offer over 250 preset positions.  These cameras are being used to monitor activity in the stadium's stands, as well as turnstile areas, entranceways and car parks.

The system also includes three ZR-DHC1630NP 16-channel PC-based DVRs for recording onto their hard drives, which are available in sizes ranging from 500Gb to 1.5Tb.  The stadium's control room has been additionally equipped with a ZP-TX/RX series matrix unit for switching and control of up to 48 cameras.  The control room operators are able to view images from around the ground using Ganz-sourced ZM-L219P professional colour TFT LCD 19-inch monitors.

"The stadium's previous surveillance system was outdated and not properly supported", comments Ganz CCTV Sales Manager, John Downie.  "Wave Electronics successfully won a tendered contract based on the strength of our equipment and having equipped this stadium with a ‘future-proof' CCTV system we're now looking forward to announcing fresh new sporting-related work in the near future."
