VdS employees welcomed the New Year with a fund-raising campaign, which was also supported by the customers of Europe’s No 1 institute for safety and security. Thanks to their generous commitment, VdS CEO Robert Reinermann was able to donate € 5,000 each to representatives of the four charity organisations ’wünschdirwas (make a wish), wir für pänz (we for children), open school Cologne and association for children with cancer. On behalf of the City of Cologne, the two Mayors of the Cathedral City Elfi Scho-Antwerpes and Hans-Werner Bartsch expressed “their great appreciation for the donors and the achievements of the charity organisations.“
“On behalf of `our´ children and their families, we would like to thank VdS for this generous donation. Thanks to Europe’s No. 1 institute for safety and security, we can make numerous children with cancer forget this terrible disease for a few hours and days“, says Marlene Merhar of the “association for children with cancer”, a self-help organisation for parents affected.
“Thanks to the great support from VdS, we will be able to make many boys’ and girls’ heartfelt wishes come true in this year of our 25th anniversary, giving them a new lease of life“, stresses Michaela Petit of make a wish, a nationwide charity that makes the dreams of seriously ill children and adolescents come true. “Memorable and beautiful moments bring positive thoughts and may provide an important, if not vital, impetus for recovery and motivation to live.“
Dr Jochen Löffelmann of the open school Cologne, an inclusive comprehensive school, explains, “thanks to your support, we are able to help many children graduate regardless of their background – many thanks to the VdS team.“
“Thanks to VdS’ donation, we are able to provide unbureaucratic and fast support to terminally ill children and their families “, explains Petra Gast, chairwoman of “we for children”. “This donation will fund, for instance, hourly care for siblings, domestic help or psycho-social counselling for parents.“
Upon donating the € 20,000, VdS CEO Robert Reinermann underlined, “We appreciate the kind words – but it is the children’s charities that deserve our gratitude. In the VdS team, we are all happy to support you. It is not only the sick children and their families that would be worse off without you, it is our entire society that would be poorer.”
