Customer

Andersen & Sons Shelling, located in Vina, California, farms and ships walnuts to customers around the world. In 2002 it expanded with a world-class nut processing facility.

Challenge

Andersen & Sons makes food safety and security a top priority. The 110-year old family agricultural business wanted to address modern facility challenges by simultaneously strengthening its doorway security and boosting compliance with government food safety regulations. The existing mechanical locks limited the company’s ability to monitor doorway traffic and swiftly change access privileges.

Solution

When the company decided to install a new locking system, their local ASSA ABLOY representative recommended a locking system that would utilise the existing Wi-Fi infrastructure.

The company chose a wireless access control system comprised of products from ASSA ABLOY Group brands Adams Rite and Sargent.

The Sargent Profile Series v.S2 intelligent wireless lock offers the ability to extend the reach of an access control system using existing Wi-Fi infrastructure, making it ideal for locations where it would be difficult or cost-prohibitive to have a wired lock.

The Adams Rite Aperio A100 electrified trim provides access control to narrow stile aluminum doors that don’t readily accommodate traditional sized lock bodies. The A100 connects to the access control system through an included ASSA ABLOY Aperio hub, enabling request-to-exit, door position, tamper and low battery alarms to be incorporated into a narrow stile aluminum door.

The v.S2 locksets are installed on all hollow metal and wood doors throughout the facility, while the aluminum frame doors in the administrative office area are equipped with the Aperio A100 locks. Together, the two devices form a wireless locking network that extends throughout the facility.
