CCTV specialist AD Group - the parent company of Dedicated Micros - has supplied a written submission to the House of Lords Committee on the Constitution, which is currently examining the impact of Surveillance and Data Collection upon the Privacy of Citizens and their relationship with the state.

In the submission, AD Group notes that the application of CCTV has grown dramatically in the UK in the fight against crime and terrorism and, in light of this, stresses that it is vital that sufficient attention is given to the privacy of citizens, especially where the implementation of new technologies is concerned.

The company also highlights in its written testimony that the breaching of current legislative controls on CCTV to gather evidence - however beneficial it may at first appear - should only be allowed in exceptional circumstances such as after a terrorist attack.

In addition, the AD Group submission points out that attention needs to be paid by legislators, with the advent of digital technology, to the potential for different types of information to be cross referenced and provided to third parties without the knowledge of the individuals concerned.
