Western Digital (WD®) will exhibit Green Power Technology at IFSEC 2009

Western Digital (WD®), one of the world's largest manufacturers of hard drives, will attend IFSEC 2009 to be held at the UK NEC Birmingham exhibition centre between 11thand 14th of May.  The WD exhibition stand, F57 in Hall 4 will showcase product examples which are particularly suited to manufacturers of video and security equipment. WD will have a number of hard drive experts available to discuss product and technology issues and there will also be customer examples showing how WD technology has been integrated into end equipment.

In July 2007 Western Digital announced the world's first environmentally friendly GreenPowerfamily of WD® desktop, enterprise and CE hard drives. WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to competitors' drives with the combination of WD's IntelliSeek, IntelliPark, and IntelliPower technologies. Sales of these drives now form a significant (20%+) proportion of all drives shipped into the market by WD, demonstrating there is an increasing demand for the low-power GreenPower™ range. The reason - industry is seeking products with lower heat dissipation, providing increased reliability and longevity, which in turn leads to a lower carbon footprint.

The following technologies enable WD's GreenPower™ platform.

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate, and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration.

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring better drive protection in transit as well as significantly less wear to the recording head and media.

StableTrac™ - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilise platters for accurate racking, during read and write operations. (2 TB models only)

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

Low power spin-up - WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during start up allowing lower peak loads.

Advanced power technology - Electronic components deliver best-in-class low power consumption for reduced power requirements and increased reliability.

WD will be attending IFSEC for the first time and looks forward to meeting existing and future customers to discuss their product and technology needs for new systems and upgrades their exist products.
