The Lucan Spa Hotel, a long established family hotel and now one of Ireland's premier wedding and conference venues, has just upgraded its guest security arrangements with a tailored electronic access control solution from SALTO Systems.
Hotels probably have one of the toughest security tasks of all. On the one hand they have registered guests staying with them but there are also lots of other people they don’t know including delivery people, maintenance people and non-residents coming in to use bars, restaurants, conference rooms, business services, sporting facilities and more.
Mindful of this, the goal of most hotels is to be discreet while providing high capability, low-profile security. Of the many measures employed by hotels to achieve this including specialist security staff, CCTV, barriers, gates and more, key control is one of the most important. Controlling keys is vital to the security of any building as the inconvenience and expense of changing locks and re-issuing keys can be considerable. Keys may also be copied, creating even more security risks.
To ensure security for their guests is not compromised the Lucan Spa Hotel has just installed 75 state-of-the-art stand alone wide bodied XS4 smart locks in a polished brass finish using the latest contactless RFID technology from SALTO Systems to handle their electronic security and access control requirements.
Kieran Gorey of Doorware Ltd, SALTO’s exclusive country distributor for Ireland who carried out the installation, says “With its enviable location providing easy access to Dublin City Centre and Dublin Airport the hotel, which has some has 70 spacious and well appointed guest room, prides itself on having the most advanced, yet unobtrusive technology.
The XS4 range needs no hard wiring and provides a totally wire free networked electronic locking solution with a great range of features |
Guests expect perfection when they come to the Lucan Spa and their expectations of security are just as high. The hotel was using already using a branded electronic access system which was installed just 3 years ago but service and support from its manufacturer fell woefully short of what the hotel needed so the decision was taken to replace it. The hotel can only maintain its premier reputation by having the correct systems, professionally supported and serviced and its electronic locks and access control must all be absolutely top-of-the-range. That’s what we have provided them with.”
The XS4 range needs no hard wiring and provides a totally wire free networked electronic locking solution with a great range of features. It incorporates distributed intelligence in both the lock and in the contactless key card. Locks are networked to the computer via the hotel’s own front desk management software, yet they need no wiring or WIFI infrastructure.
Each lock has its own battery power source and built-in RFID contactless card reader which identifies the user, be it a guest or member of the housekeeping team, interrogates their access rights and then either opens the lock or refuses entry, recording the action onto an audit trail. This gives the hotel full control of room security at all times while the contactless key cards automatically store and convey information back and forth between locks and the controlling PC.
Claire Casey, Sales & Marketing Manager at Lucan Spa Hotel, comments “We chose SALTO because of their reputation as manufacturers of advanced technology security solutions for the hotel and hospitality industry. Our XS4 smart locks give us the ability to upgrade our security arrangements as and when we need without having to buy new hardware, saving us long term operating costs while providing the hotel with what we need most – total control.”
Gorey concludes “For the hotel the safety and security of their guests is paramount. Now that the new SALTO system is installed and in everyday use, they’re finding a number of features particularly useful. These include the ability to track entries to individual rooms via the audit trail and the fact that there is no need to replace locks or key cards if a card is lost or stolen as it can be deleted from the system in an instant.”
