Automatic Systems, a world leader in the automation of secure entrance control, announces that its ParkPlus and TollPlus barriers are fully compatible with the ALPR technology and its mechanical and electronic components can be seamlessly integrated within the robust housing of the barriers.

Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) is a control method using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology on images taken by video cameras. Motorways and off-street parking are the sectors investing the most in ALPR technology. This technology offers more effective information management while minimising the equipment required, in order to increase return on investment.  According to an IHS study, the market for ALPR systems is set to reach over $800 million in 2018.

It is in the motorway sector that the use of ALPR systems is most prolific and this is where the strongest growth is expected in future years. Although the off-street parking market is still at the early stages of implementing ALPR technology, its outlook is highly encouraging with an estimated annual growth rate of 9.4% between 2012 and 2017 and an enormous application potential.

TollPlus - Toll application barriers for major vehicle flow

Designed for highway toll booths, Automatic Systems TollPlus series of barriers fulfills the specific requirements of toll applications in terms of speed (# 0.6 seconds), endurance (20.000 cycles/day) and reliability (MCBF= 10M cycles, reversible gear motor, direct drive boom reducing the failure rate …) while requiring low maintenance (long life-cycle) and offering a wide range of booms (up to 4 meters in length, in aluminium or carbon, reversible, with automatic boom reseating system).

ParkPlus - Parking barriers

ParkPlus is an intelligent barrier with many innovative features such as an aluminium frame, IP connectivity for remote management enabled via a simple web browser, a Smartphone or an IPAD, a modern and innovative design and an interchangeable housing allowing for endless customisation of the barrier. Parking applications demand robust rising barriers that can be integrated with, and controlled by, an external management system. ParkPlus barriers offer a simple solution that is highly reliable and competitively priced.

Today, ALPR cameras are mounted within special boxes or on poles, where they are exposed to harsh weather conditions and vandalism. In some cases, it is not possible to obtain a plate image of sufficiently reliable resolution due to the on-site position of the camera. All this contributes to increasing the overall cost.

Automatic Systems proposes the mechanical and electronic integration of these cameras within the barrier housing. This reduces component costs and minimises structural work while at the same time enhancing the reliability of pictures taken at very close range, in addition to fraud detection.

While physical access control remains a fundamental functionality in traffic management - thus the need for superior performance, the discretion and aesthetic appearance of the system together with its overall cost becomes increasingly important. The latest generation of Automatic Systems barriers (ParkPlus & TollPlus) not only delivers all of these functionalities but also allows dialogue with these systems via various XML/RPC or ModBus communication protocols.
