Tactical Wireless has used technology from Peplink to develop and launch Omni-Hub™, an integrated unit which improves the delivery of live video and sensor transmission from remote, low-bandwidth areas. Omni-Hub integrates the benefits of video management software, store and forward facilities, on-board computing power and an intelligent bonded router across a wide range of health and security applications.
Omni-Hub provides an open architecture solution based on the integration of commercial off the shelf hardware and is not dependent on any one network. Each Omni-Hub can be networked via Tactical Wireless’s own secure Omni-Hub™.Net network allowing multiple Hubs to provide aggregated bandwidth, within the Hub and over multiple Hubs. Service resiliency is enabled by the ability of the Hub to access multiple cellular, Wi-Fi, satellite and ADSL connections. This diversity of delivery paths is further enhanced by the bonded WAN router technology that splits the data between multiple routes and multiple head ends. Security is provided by encryption up to AES 256 levels across the entire network
Tactical Wireless has conducted successful connectivity trials in the most remote areas of Scotland, including the Highlands, Shetlands, Orkneys and Western Isles. The system has also been tested and embedded into an Inverness based Satellite Ultrasound for Rural Stroke (SURS) project, alongside Scottish Ambulance Service. In March, the Omni-Hub solution was also successfully demonstrated at the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP) demonstration day at Satellite Applications Catapult supported by 2 ambulances from Scottish Ambulance Service.
In the ESMCP demonstration, live images from two ultrasound machines were streamed from an ambulance in the Highland Region, through an Omni-Hub to a simulated Control Centre at Harwell. The images were also displayed at a location in Leicestershire via a second networked Omni-Hub unit. As part of another test, a paramedic in the ambulance in the Highlands carried out an investigation on a patient, including cranial and trauma scans which were remotely viewed on an iPad also connected to the Omni-Hub™.Net network. The high quality of the imagery allowed a physician to direct the paramedic on correct probe positioning.
“Omni-Hub provides a powerful communication tool able to utilise a wide range of communication systems to meet a diverse set of use cases,” says Peter Morton, Chairman and MD of Tactical Wireless, “Peplink have been a great support to our development team in helping us to utilise its bonding technology and with Omni-Hub now in full commercial deployment, we look forward to furthering our relationship as we progress our go-to market plans.”
Martin Langmaid, Technology Evangelist for Peplink said “Providing network availability, resilience and effective link optimisation, are the biggest challenges to the delivery of a truly mobile enterprise class IP connection. Peplink’s Multi WAN, VPN bonding routers - in combination with application and network optimisation from Tactical Wireless, provide one of the most elegant, cost effective solutions available for these challenges.”
