Security Essen marks its 40th anniversary in 2014 as a global fair for security and fire protection technology. With more than 1,000 exhibitors from 40 countries taking up more than 85,000 square meters (914,932 square feet) of booth space, Security Essen honours pioneering companies in security innovation and highlights young companies with new solutions “made in Germany.” Security Essen 2014 will be held on September 23rd -26th.

In 2014, Security Essen gathers more than 40 market segments under one roof for the first time – from mechanical security technology via fire protection and video surveillance to crime detection technology and counter-terrorism. Manufacturers for civil security technology from major industrial nations are represented in 2014. Security Forum educational sessions are held in Halls 5 and 7.

The “Security Innovation Award” at Security Essen honours three categories – technology and products; services; and fire protection – in a ceremony on the eve of the exhibition. At the fair, a cooperative booth titled “Innovation Made in Germany” enables emerging companies to showcase products and innovations to trade visitors from around the world, with Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy bearing 70 percent of the booth rent.

Security Essen began in 1974 with only 105 exhibitors, and has been supported from the beginning by a strong advisory board. The Security Innovation Award, the “security sector’s Oscar,” was given for the first time in 2008, the same year that a special “Fire Prevention” show with 100 firms and associations was added. Since 2006, a separate section has been dedicated to IT security.

Show hours at Messe Essen in Germany are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23) through Thursday (Sept. 25); and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26.
