The walk was estimated to take a minimum of 12 hours but two members of the Mayflex MAD team were in the first few to finish

A team of 8 staff from Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions including cabling infrastructure, networking and electronic security solutions took part in a 23 mile trek along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge took place on Saturday 2nd August 2014 with an early 6.00 a.m. start for registration at Lanercost Priory, just outside of Carlisle, before the team and the other 280 participants were transferred to the start of the walk, at Brocolitia Roman Fort.

The walk was estimated to take a minimum of 12 hours but two members of the Mayflex MAD team were in the first few to finish, with a time of just under 9 hours with the remaining team all crossing the finish line at Lanercost Priory within 10 hours.

Dementia is an extremely cruel disease and whether it’s Vascular Dementia or Alzheimer’s the conclusion is the same, it slowly but surely destroys the mind and personality of the person and takes away their ability to do anything for themselves.

Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager commented ‘Due to the fact that a number of us at Mayflex have close relatives that suffer from dementia, we thought it was the perfect challenge to help raise much needed funds. I am delighted to say that the team has so far raised over £8000 and donations are still coming in.’

Tracey continued ‘The weather wasn’t overly kind to us with heavy rain showers throughout the day, but the temperature was good for walking and thankfully we all had waterproof clothing that kept most of the rain at bay. The actual walk itself was quite tough and particularly the first half which was the most challenging with steep climbs and descents, that wasn’t helped by the rain which made the stone paths extremely slippy.’

Tracey concluded ‘Thank you to everyone that has sponsored us, we very much appreciate the support.’
