After the announcement of the government has allocated over £1.8bn in funding to boost energy efficiency and cut emissions across homes and public buildings across England, the following is the reaction from Paul Burnett, MD and Co-Founder of Asset+ at EMEX below.

Decarbonisation Scheme Grants

Paul has been closely working with Public Sector customers to secure the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme grants, which are designed to help public sector buildings such as schools and hospitals drive down their carbon emissions.

One example of work they have completed is with Hounslow Council, which achieved a 50% reduction in carbon emissions with Asset+.

Maximising Carbon Savings

The transition to move away from the use of fossil fuels is a vital component to progress toward carbon neutrality"

Paul Burnett, MD and Co-Founder of Asset+, “We welcome the next stage of the PSDS from the government, and these grants make an unimaginable difference to the public sector."

He adds, "The transition to move away from the use of fossil fuels in buildings is not an easy one but is a vital component to progress towards carbon neutrality. As an industry, we need to ensure the allocated grant funds are deployed to both achieve scheme compliance and maximise carbon savings."

Grant Benefits

Paul Burnett continues, “Our work with Hounslow Council last year is just one success story from this grant, where we delivered emissions savings of 50% in schools and corporate buildings, saving over 17 million kWh per energy, which equates to over 3,000 tonnes of carbon. This reduction in energy use also translated to a 50% reduction in cost."

He adds, "The benefits of this grant for the environment and move to net zero are clear, as well as the ongoing advantages to the communities and the health of the public.”
