Monitors from Rainbow CCTV are being used for surveillance on the Thousand Islands Bridge between north-western New York and Ontario.
The bridge which is in fact a series of spans across the St Lawrence River ultimately connects both banks. The international border crossing is between Wellesley Island in the United States and Hill Island in Canada.
Rainbow monitors are being used by the Thousand Island Bridge Authority to assess traffic flows throughout the 8.5 mile crossing which extends from Collins Landing near Alexandria Bay, New York, to Ivy Lea near Gananoque, Ontario.
The Rainbow monitor range covers basic 9” black and white units to 14” color models. The monitors are UL, CUL and CE approved and offer worldwide compatibility. The monochrome models will accept EIA or CCIR while the colour units operate on NTSC or PAL. All of the monitors accept 100~240VAC, 50/60 Hz and have looping video inputs, audio, and front panel controls for screen adjustments.
Known to local people as “The Garden of the Great Spirit, The Thousand Island area includes Alexandria Bay, location of Boldt Castle, a limestone folly built by millionaire hotelier George C. Boldt who masterminded Manhattan's Waldorf-Astoria. Boldt created the castle for his beloved wife, Louise, then abandoned it, unfinished, at her death in 1904. The castle now attracts four million visitors annually."
