In the modern office building effective security and access control is paramount.  There are many solutions on the market to identify individuals, the most common being proximity card readers on all doors requiring day to day access, but with an added level of security.

When circumstances require higher security, biometric readers, the newest leap forward in security, can be implemented.  These can include scanning a fingerprint or iris to replace the traditional access card. The benefits to security of this type of system are obvious as each individual in the building has a unique “access card” that is always with them, thereby removing the threat caused by lost or stolen, or passed on cards.  Whilst the cost of these higher security systems is greater than the standard proximity readers, there is a clear security advantage.

However, even when going the extra mile for that high security area, such as a computer server room, cash office or research lab, there is still one problem with any biometric system on the market… tailgating. A biometric system will not protect the area from unauthorised entry through the door after an authorised user has used it and passed through, known as tailgating.

Door Detective, from Integrated Design, maximises the investment in any access control system by raising the security level of any door it is used on. Door Detective helps the access control system overcome the age old problem of controlling how many people pass through a doorway, and in which direction, once a valid fingerprint or iris has been scanned. Following an authorised user through a door is known as tailgating and it is very easy to do. We have all been told that it is good manners to hold doors open for other people and more often than not good manners win over the good security practice of closing the door firmly behind you to stop someone else coming in.  Intruders may therefore be willingly let in to a secure area and the biometric system is beaten.  Door Detective solves this problem by ensuring each individual who passes through a door must scan their fingerprint or iris.

Tailgating is widely accepted as one of the biggest threats to security so when costly biometric readers are required why not complete the whole security package with the anti-tailgating security that Door Detective offers and the piece of mind of a complete secure system.
