Quantum Corp. announced that Zhejiang Uniview Technologies Co. Ltd., a video surveillance system integrator, has agreed to become a Quantum value-added reseller and strategic alliance partner.

Uniview offers a comprehensive line of IP video surveillance products—including IP cameras, network video recorders, encoders, decoders, storage and client software and applications—covering vertical markets such as retail, building, education and municipal government. Uniview will now sell Quantum’s full range of scale-out tiered storage products, enabling customers to manage the transformation in surveillance technology and the massive growth in surveillance data more efficiently and cost-effectively.

Video surveillance solutions

According to industry research firm IHS Markit, the market for enterprise storage used in security and video surveillance in China is projected to increase at a 26 per cent compound annual growth rate between 2014 and 2019. At this rate, IHS Markit expects China to overtake the United States as the largest market in the world for this type of storage by 2018.

Video surveillance is undergoing rapid change, with the accelerated adoption of high-definition cameras, longer retention times for video-based data and the implementation of sophisticated new analytical tools. Storage costs can force customers to compromise in one or more of
these areas.

Data management

Powered by the company’s award-winning StorNext software, Quantum’s highly scalable, multi-tier storage solutions leverage disk, tape, and the cloud to provide an optimal balance of cost, performance, and accessibility for video surveillance workflows. Data can be kept on- or off-premise, including in public, private or hybrid cloud architectures, based on customer preferences.

“Uniview has clearly established itself as a security and surveillance leader in China”

Quantum’s data management tools keep data easily accessible across storage media, with the simplicity of searching a C: drive, enabling users to get information when needed regardless of the storage tier where it resides. This economical tiered approach to storage also allows customers to retain surveillance data longer, leaving more budget available to spend on cameras, analytics, and other tools in their video surveillance environment.

Video-based data storage

Hermit Zhang, Chief Executive Officer, Zhejiang Uniview Technologies Co. Ltd. said: “Uniview is a pioneer in IP video surveillance, and we’ve continued to build on our leadership, as reflected in the fact that we are growing at an annual rate of more than 50 per cent. A key reason for our success has been our ability to deliver powerful, cost-effective solutions that help customers manage the ever-increasing influx of data, and Quantum’s multi-tier storage offerings are an excellent addition to our portfolio.”

Wayne Arvidson, Vice President, Surveillance and Security Solutions, Quantum said: “Surveillance customers and partners are increasingly turning to Quantum for not only storage solutions but also technical innovation that enables them to achieve their mission of protecting people and property more efficiently while also extracting business value from video-based data. Uniview has clearly established itself as a security and surveillance leader in China, and we look forward to working together in enabling customers to meet evolving challenges and capitalise on new opportunities.”
