GDX by STANLEY Product & Technology, a leading provider of door entry systems, has announced the UK launch of GDX7 – a cutting edge Power Line Ethernet (PLE) system that utilises a standard 2-Core cable for transmitting all communications and power to each component of the system. Suitable for use in a diverse range of housing association applications, as well as commercial environments, the highly robust GDX7 has been approved by Secured by Design - a group of national police projects focusing on the quality of design for crime prevention schemes.

As the successor to the market leading solution, GDX5 - GDX7 has been designed to be future proof, with additional hardware and features planned that will provide installers and end users with a system that can grow and change to match specific needs. Furthermore, its flexible design ensures that site requirements can be quickly accommodated.

GDX7’s single cable ‘plug & play’ design can be used for all system types

Single cable ‘Plug & Play’ design

GDX7’s single cable ‘plug & play’ design can be used for all system types – audio only, audio and video, or a mixture of both. Not only does this feature make it extremely adaptable and cost effective, it is also highly sustainable, as it simplifies the cable infrastructure required by utilising a 0.75mm cable for transmitting all required power and communications via a proprietary SIP-based protocol.

GDX7 entrance panels, handsets and apartment station designs are aimed at providing improved access solutions in line with the current Disability Discrimination Act and Disability and Equality Act (2010) to meet the requirements of any tenant.

Optional camera with LEDs

The GDX7 IP65 rated entrance panel includes an optional fully integrated camera with LEDs that streams live footage of any visitors back to a video handset or apartment station when they attempt to enter the property. The panel also provides backlit LCD single line display for clear visitor feedback, while a separate vandal-proof reader is also available to secure doors that do not require visitor access control.

GDX7 represents the next generation of door entry systems and comes with features that offer the highest levels of security"

The entrance panel is linked to an 8-Way line card via an interface board that is supplied in a robust metal housing, constructed of marine-grade 316 stainless steel, that comes complete with a 50W power supply unit. The entrance panel can be set-up for use by one to eight handsets, apartment stations, or a variety of both, and, as each handset and apartment station use the same type of cable, they can be easily swapped if requirements change.

Multiple standard features

The video handset also comes with multiple standard features, which can be personalised to suit the preferences of each tenant. These include the ability to answer calls, grant access or to set a privacy mode for residents who do not wish to be disturbed.  Importantly, if one handset in the building fails, the system operation is not affected for the other residents.

David Hughes, global product manager at GDX by STANLEY Product and Technology, commented, “GDX7 represents the next generation of door entry systems and comes with features that offer the highest levels of security. Ensuring the safety of occupants in multi-tenanted buildings, especially social housing, is under great scrutiny now and solutions such as GDX7 play a vital role in protecting people, property and assets. With a full range of pre-sales design, specification, technical and site survey support for all our customers and approved suppliers, we are available to offer help and advice through every step of the process.
