Mobile phone retailers are popular targets for theft. The smartphones inside their stores come with price tags that rival laptops and desktop computers. The devices are also small enough to slip inside a bag or remove from a store in bulk.

Once smartphones are swiped, they can quickly be sold through online marketplaces or auction sites. Across the country, smartphones are being stolen via robbery, burglary, smash-and-grabs and organised retail crime.

Retail display security

Scorpion Security Products, the pioneer in retail display security, has detailed these events in its latest white paper, Can Wireless Retailers Eliminate Phone Theft?

Scorpion also provides an overview of the security product features necessary to stop theft

Scorpion also provides an overview of the security product features necessary to stop theft, such as alternatives to cords or cables, which can be cut or pulled out of a display. “Theft-proofing merchandise starts at the product-design level,” said Pete Gulick, CEO and President of Scorpion Security Products.

Pete Gulick adds, “I put 30 years of mechanical engineering experience into Scorpion’s unique design and function. My goal is to help protect retailers without taking away from customer experience.”

Most important features

Scorpion’s Select Phone, for example, has a rotating base that lets customers experience smartphones in vertical and horizontal view.

Installation requires zero tools and takes less than a minute. The Select XL (left) features a slightly offset top leg to allow for full exposure of the back camera, so customers can fully experience one of the most important features to consider when purchasing a smartphone. The versatile Quick Release Scorpion features adjustable legs that fit and secure all devices currently on the market.
