SALTO Systems has been chosen to provide its smart access control solution for the new global headquarters of Life Sciences giant Abcam at their Cambridge biomedical campus.

The construction company Kier has appointed SALTO Inspired Business Partner GBE Fire & Security to carry out the installation and commissioning of the system, as well as providing Fire, Gas Suppression, Disabled Alarms, CCTV and Data Network systems for the state-of-the-art £46 million office and laboratory scheme.

The new site consisting of a three-storey laboratory building and a four-storey office building, connected by an atrium link, will combine Abcam’s current facilities in Cambridge and will house the group’s UK innovation and manufacturing capabilities, laboratories, logistics, sales, marketing and corporate functions. It will also be the company’s European distribution hub.

GBE will be working with partners SALTO, Gent, Baldwin Boxall and Pelco to implement the project, with GBE’s work commencing in October 2017 with a scheduled completion in August 2018.

Steve Rossiter, Key Accounts Manager SALTO Systems Ltd, says “SALTO access control is in use at a number of bio-medical facilities around the world and we are very pleased that GBE has selected us for this prestigious new campus in Cambridge. Security measures in such places need to be robust and effective and SALTO will provide them with total control over who can access what, when and where at all times.”

GBE’s Business Development Manager Paul Walsh said of the appointment “This is another prestigious contract win for GBE and we are very proud to be part of this leading, biotech construction project.”
