ProdataKey (PDK), the manufacturer of the access-control platform built for mobile, is combining efforts with Altronix, the recognised pioneer in power and data transmission products for the professional security industry.

Both organisations announce that their solution has been deployed to secure Fairbourne Office Tower, the newest premium commercial building in West Valley City, Utah. Summit Technology, an IT solutions provider headquartered in Salt Lake City, installed the building-wide solution at the behest of its client, Wasatch Commercial Management (WCM).

Fairbourne Office Tower is a nine-story property with an adjacent parking structure located within Fairbourne Station, a new 40-acre, mixed-use development.

Immediate security requirements

The PDK-Altronix solution was designed to meet the property’s immediate security requirements, along with the ability to scale up quickly and easily as needed. The initial installation includes approximately 122 PDK devices securing the lobby, elevators, electrical and storage closets, stairwells, and occupied office space.

All readers throughout the building are PDK’s Bluetooth-compatible devices with the touch-free capability

All readers throughout the building are PDK’s Bluetooth-compatible devices with touch-free capability, Touch io. A building-wide, high-speed fibre infrastructure, installed by Summit Technology, stands ready to support future controlled access points that will be needed as additional tenants move in. The building is currently occupied by a reduced on-site workforce and contains several vacant floors and office suites due to the pandemic.

Multi-door controllers

Hardware installation was simplified thanks to Altronix Trove enclosures with integrated power. The Altronix units consolidate up to three multi-door controllers and a power supply within a single housing, thereby keeping Fairbourne Tower’s electrical rooms neater and more organised.

The Trove enclosures can hold either a 12-volt or 24-volt power supply, which freed Summit Technology to run power over much longer distances using half the wire gauge at 24 volts. PDK’s unique, mobile-first platform further simplified installation by empowering Summit Technologies’ technicians to use their own phones to test and configure the system’s devices. The completed PDK-Altronix system provides WCM’s property manager, Joanne Marshall, with highly flexible, easy-to-use tools to manage the building’s access schedules and user credentials.

Employees' access privileges

Workers will be able to use the same credential for the building’s main doors

She reinforces with this: “Because Pdk io is on the cloud, I have access to it after hours from wherever I am. If someone gets locked out, they give me a call and I can remotely let them in.”

She also looks forward to leveraging PDK’s partitioning feature, which allows the HR teams of new tenants to assign users and manage their employees' access privileges. Workers will be able to use the same credential for the building’s main doors, the parking garage, and their suite.

Val Reynolds, Summit Technology’s vice president of Infrastructure and ISP, says, “Right now, we’ve deployed a solution that’s just a fragment of what we can ultimately build out for the entire complex.” As tenants move in, Summit Technology can add controlled access points at any time without interfering with the system’s operation.

Access control solution

PDK offers the touch-free experience employees will demand along with the management features"

PDK’s ’edge-style’ system makes installation much easier and less disruptive; as soon as readers are installed and configured, new doors appear within Joanne’s Pdk io app, and she can assign them to a partition.

Evan Tree, PDK’s President, and CEO says, “Being chosen to secure the Fairbourne Office Tower demonstrates the relevance our mobile-first, touch-free access control solution has to the commercial real-estate sector. As workers return to the office, PDK offers the touch-free experience employees will demand along with the management features and scalability valued by property owners and management teams.”

The combination of our Trove power distribution and its integration with PDK access control in a single solution was the ideal choice when designing security for the Fairbourne Office Tower project,” said Alan Forman, President, Altronix Corporation. “Trove simplifies system design and deployment which results in a win-win solution for both Summit Technology and WCM.”
