Engineers from ONVIF member companies gathered at the closed member event earlier this month to test their products’ interoperability with other ONVIF Profile-conformant products
The Brentford Plugfest drew 56 technical expert attendees from 27 companies around the world

ONVIF®, the global standardisation initiative for IP-based physical security products, hosted its 14th Developers’ Plugfest June 1st-3rd in Brentford, West London, at the Holiday Inn London – Brentford Lock. With multiple testings of ONVIF conformant products, the Developers’ Plugfest included interoperability testing for all six ONVIF profiles, including Profiles Q and A, which are both scheduled for final release in 2016, and Profile T, ONVIF’s newest profile for video that is currently in development.

Engineers from ONVIF member companies gathered at the closed member event earlier this month to test their products’ interoperability with other ONVIF Profile-conformant products. In addition to Profile interoperability tests, all ONVIF clients had one hour of testing using ONVIF’s Client Test Tool Clinic, and also had the opportunity to discuss with Test Tool developers any issues that arose during conformance testing.

Testing interoperability

“The ONVIF Developers’ Plugfest brings together developers from all over the world and gives them the chance to test their companies’ products for interoperability with other ONVIF-conformant products,” said Canon’s Takahiro Iwasaki, Chairman of ONVIF’s Technical Services Committee Taskforce, Developers' Plugfest. “It is also an event that fosters camaraderie, facilitates networking and encourages dialog between member organisations. That spirit of cooperation is really what drives ONVIF as a whole and is a key to our continued success.”

The Brentford Plugfest drew 56 technical expert attendees from 27 companies from around the world and attendees logged 295 hours of total testing time during the three-day event, with all of ONVIF’s profiles tested for interoperability. Plugfest attendees tested interoperability for Profile Q for out-of-the-box interoperability and Profile A for everyday access control functions, along with Profile S for IP-based video systems, Profile C for IP-based access control and Profile G for edge storage and retrieval. Some developers also tested for interoperability using Profile T for video, ONVIF’s newest profile that is currently in development and is scheduled to be released by ONVIF in 2018.

ONVIF Plugfest November

The Brentford Developers’ Plugfest also included a plenary meeting of the ONVIF Developers’ Plugfest Task Force, which announced the date and location of ONVIF’s next Plugfest: November 9-11, 2016, in Taipei, Taiwan, which will be hosted by Vivotek.

With nearly 500 members on six continents, ONVIF includes leading camera, video management system and access control companies that contribute to the development of open global standards for effective interoperability of IP-based physical security products. With Profile S for streaming video; Profile G for recording and storage; Profile C for physical access control and the Release Candidates Profile A, for access control configuration, and Profile Q, for improved out-of-the-box functionality, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions ONVIF conformant products can provide.
