Milestone Systems, a provider of open platform company in IP video management software (VMS), has been voted again as one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work for in Oregon’. Oregon Business Magazine’s annual list and company ranking are based on anonymously answered employee surveys covering many areas of employer performance.
“We had great participation from our Beaverton employees responding to the survey,” said Rachelle Basaraba, Human Resources Manager, Milestone Systems. “For a company our size, Oregon’s Best required that at least 15 employees take the survey — we had 48, which shows nice engagement of almost 65%.”
Benefits and compensation satisfied 89.5% of Milestone's employees surveyed, ranking 2.7 out of 3 for paid time off and leave
Work-life balance and compensation
The annual ‘100 Best’ list first noted Milestone Systems in 2017, and in 2018 Milestone earned the 16th position among 88 participating medium-sized companies. Employee survey questions covered six major categories regarding 20 workplace characteristics and 11 Sustainable Practices plus an Employer Benefits score.
Milestone scored especially well in these areas:
- Working Environment was rated 92.7% satisfaction, with the flexibility to balance family, community and job obligations ranking 2.8 out of a possible 3.
- Management & Communication for treatment by supervisors received 2.7 out of 3.
- Decision Making & Trust for ‘pride and belief in the company’ received 2.6 out of 3.
- Benefits & Compensation satisfied 89.5% of employees surveyed, ranking 2.7 out of 3 for paid time off and leave.
We see regular internal promotions and movement between departments when people want to try something new and expand their skills"Growth opportunities
Basaraba notes: “Since its founding in Denmark 20 years ago, Milestone has continued some of its Scandinavian touch for achieving a good work/life balance, which employees appreciate highly.” Milestone’s global headquarters are in Copenhagen, and the U.S. corporate office in Oregon was established in 2004 for managing the Americas’ activities.
The Beaverton site in 2017 was responsible for 75 local staff (grown to 85 in May 2018) out of 150 employees in Milestone Americas, including Canada and Latin America. Milestone Systems has 750 employees worldwide, and offices in 20 countries. “Our business is interesting and very rewarding, attracting talented and enthusiastic people who work hard but also enjoy celebrating our team successes,” said Basaraba.
“Milestone employees get opportunities to grow. We see regular internal promotions and movement between departments when people want to try something new and expand their skills. Besides training on our video management technology, we most recently have been running a voluntary Toastmasters course for about 20 staff members to improve presentation skills and personal confidence, which has brought great response.”
