U.S. Private Vaults, a Beverly Hills, California-based provider of anonymous safe deposit box rentals, has selected biometric identity verification technology from Iris ID. USPV rents safe deposit boxes like those found at banks, but with two primary differences – customers are identified only through iris patterns and the facility is protected by multiple layers of enhanced security.

Accurate identification capabilities

When they sign up for service, USPV’s 800 customers are enrolled in the Iris ID system within three minutes. After a short introduction to the technology, they can enter the vault door in seconds during business hours to access their safety box.

Matthew Bonvincin, USPV’s Chief Technology Officer, said the iris recognition system is used for it highly accurate identification capabilities, as well as for non-contact and security.

“Aside from being the best way to implement our business plan, the iris scan also captures potential customers’ imaginations,” he said. “Mentioning the words ‘biometric iris access’ drives home what we’re trying to do when explaining a private and anonymous safe deposit box facility.”

Motion detection

The USPV vault is also equipped with motion detectors, heat sensors and other sophisticated security measures to detect intruders after normal business hours. The structural steel, reinforced concrete vault was designed to withstand natural disasters such as fires and earthquakes, along with assaults that could occur during civil unrest. The facility is also monitored 24 hours a day by a leading national security service.

“Accuracy is critical for a business that identifies its customers only through iris scans”

Mohammed Murad, Global Director of Sales for Iris ID, said the iris recognition system allows rapid and highly accurate authentication of USPV customers due to the uniqueness of each person’s iris patterns.

“Accuracy is critical for a business that identifies its customers only through iris scans,” he said. “The Iris ID system also serves as another critical layer of security, ensuring only the renters of a safe deposit boxes can gain access to the vault.”
