Qatari retail chain Al Sulaiman Jewellers is using the latest IDIS technology to upgrade its network surveillance system and comply with rigorous government security standards.

Under regulations implemented by the Security Systems Department of the Ministry of the Interior (SSD-MOI), businesses including gold retailers are required to install advanced measures including IP-CCTV systems. All IDIS equipment now complies with standards required by governments across the Gulf region, thanks to ongoing market focus and investment.

Al Sulaiman Jewellers, which has 18 branches employing more than 150 specialists, is one of the country’s leading names in high-end gold jewellery, gem stones, watches, pearls and designs.

Al Sulaiman’s integrator, A4S, identified IDIS as the best partner to work with after assessing the market, and the two companies have established a close working partnership as this and many other projects have developed. The Sulaiman Jewellers roll-out is due for completion in March 2018.

Choosing equipment at regulation standard

All the chosen equipment, including the IDIS cameras, NVRs, hard-disks, monitors and video management system (VMS) were quickly approved through the SSD-MOI online process.

The system design ensures that cameras will cover all the critical areas, as required, with facial recognition covering all entrances. More than 40 cameras provide complete coverage of the showroom, with a combination of 2MP and 3MP IR domes and a 5MP fisheye camera, the latter being specified by Al Sulaiman as an addition to the mandated system.

"We have combined our design and installation expertise to ensure that the Al Sulaiman Jewellers showroom and offices are fully protected," says Harry Kwon

For other areas, including offices, the rooftop, the basement, vehicle access points and the perimeter, a further 60 IR cameras, including domes and bullet cameras, are deployed. Network connectivity is ensured with an IDIS 28-Port and 24-Port PoE gigabit switch and storage is handled by the IDIS NVR together with expansion storage equipment.

The system is configured with RAID 5 to record 24/7 for 120 days, as required by SSD-MOI. Allowing efficient live viewing and playback the system also includes the latest IDIS 32” screens and 23” workstation monitors, together with the highly scalable and modular IDIS solution Suite VMS.

Combination of design and expertise

Harry Kwon, General Manager of IDIS Middle East and North Africa, says the close partnership between IDIS and A4S has proved highly successful. “We have combined our design and installation expertise to ensure that the Al Sulaiman Jewellers showroom and offices are fully protected", he said. "This project provides an excellent example of what can be achieved when suppliers and integrators work together.”

Based on this success, A4S is now looking to deliver high quality solutions for other customers across Qatar and beyond, confirms Mr Hemant M. Jhaveri, Managing Director, Al Sulaiman Jewellers.

The expertise of A4S and the scalability, forward-compatibility and the assurance of continuing leading-edge system capability are all important additional benefits of working with IDIS. Having the best surveillance solution is critical for us, so it’s great that our chosen partner, IDIS, not only meets our high standards now, but will work with us into the future as our business needs evolve and new technologies come online.”
