Custom Consoles reports a successful TSE show, held at the Birmingham NEC April 5th-7th. The Security Event was chosen as the launch platform for new options in the SteelBase series of control desks.

"We have exhibited at many major shows over the years, both in the security and broadcast sectors," says Custom Consoles Managing Director Neil Reed. "This was our first TSE and we are pleased to report that it proved a great success. Visitor traffic proved good on all three days, both in terms of headcount and in the level of interest shown in our products. The most important factor with any trade exhibition is the amount of potential new business it generates which in this case was very good. We have already booked for TSE 2023."

Process control applications

Custom Consoles' key offering for the markets TSE addresses, SteelBase is an established in industry-proven range designed specifically for security and process control applications. Each SteelBase desk is built around a robust steel frame with ventilated accommodation for computer equipment.

The contract included the design and installation of desks for the LHCb main control room

Desks can be specified from a standard set of modules to match a wide range of operational requirements and control room dimensions. Among high profile users is CERN which commissioned SteelBase technical control furniture for use at its headquarters on the Franco-Swiss border. The contract included the design and installation of desks for the LHCb main control room and LHC cryogenics control room. It was followed by a second technical control desk project for the CERN Heavy Magnet Testing control room.

Vertical support elements

Also promoted at TES was Custom Consoles MediaWall which allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. MediaWall is also modular in concept and can be used to create multiscreen displays of any required control room width and height, self-supporting or coupled directly to an existing structure.

Individual screens can be positioned so that the edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. Cable management is a central design feature both of SteelBase and MediaWall. Integral cableways allow power and data cables to be fully concealed within the desk structure while retaining easy access for routine maintenance or adjustment.

Laminating work surfaces

The desks can be delivered in flat-pack form for easy assembly by the customer or by on-site installers

Cables can be routed laterally across and between bays as well as vertically to floor level. Internal 19-inch racking is available as a standard feature. Desktop equipment pods can be specified if required.

SteelBase desks are available in a choice of 120 cm (standard) or 100 cm (SteelBase Lite) front-to-back sizes with a choice of hard-wearing Marmoleum or laminate work surfaces. All elements are guaranteed against component failure for five years of normal use. The desks can be delivered in flat-pack form for easy assembly by the customer or by on-site installers.

Ventilated equipment housings

Custom Consoles Ltd is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer of project-specific and modular broadcast, process-control and security furniture. Its product range includes motorised and fixed-height desks and ventilated equipment housings.
