ONVIF held two networking events to provide an update to the industry on its work in furthering IP interoperability standards
ONVIF held its annual meeting in Shenzhen, China in November

ONVIF, the global leading standardisation initiative for IP-based physical security products, announced that it held its annual meeting in Shenzhen, China in November, where speakers highlighted the progress of interoperability standards around the globe.

Hosted at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Shenzhen, ONVIF's annual meeting was organised in conjunction with the CPSE 2011 trade show, where ONVIF also held two networking events to provide an update to the industry on ONVIF's work in furthering IP interoperability standards.

ONVIF officials gave presentations on several key initiatives for 2012, including the introduction of profiles, which simplifies the selection of interoperable versions of the specification for end users and systems integrators. The first profile is expected to be released in December.  Annual meeting attendees heard an update on ONVIF's technical roadmap, which includes the pending release of Version 2.2 of the ONVIF specification in early 2012.

The meeting's keynote speaker was from the TC100 committee of the Standardisation Administration of China, which develops and administrates the national technical standard for the Chinese security industry.  Ms. Chen Chaowu, deputy director of the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security, People's Republic of China, provided an overview on existing technical standards for video surveillance systems and spoke to ONVIF members gathered in Shenzhen about the work of SAC/TC100.

"It's a great pleasure to be involved in the ONVIF Annual Meeting in Shenzhen, and to share with all the ONVIF members about what SAC/TC100 has been doing," Chen said. "Hopefully moving forward, there will be opportunities for ONVIF and SAC/TC100 to work together to push further on the IP standardisation."

To ensure that ONVIF members around the globe have the opportunity to attend these larger member events, the 2012 annual meeting will be held in November in the United States.
