StaySafe Business meets Altwood’s duty of care to their lone workers and accurately monitors their safety

Housing and property business Altwood Group use the StaySafe Business app downloaded onto iPads to track employee safety via GPS and alerts.

Employees at Altwood Group, who offer a diverse range of property services working with local authorities, private landlords and developers, are often required to work and travel alone. To better meet their duty of care to their lone workers and accurately monitor their safety Altwood have migrated their lone worker safety provision to StaySafe Business.

Tracks a lone workers location via GPS

StaySafe Business is an app and surrounding cloud-based monitoring service which tracks a lone workers location via GPS and alerts their manager if they do not check-in within a specified time. The app works on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry and offers a wide range of functions including a panic button, working session expiry and low battery warnings, GPS tracking, inactivity and duress alerts. If an employee activates the app’s panic button or fails to check in, alerts are automatically triggered on screen and via text and email, allowing an employer to take immediate action. Altwood undertake the monitoring of their employees in-house via an online hub but monitoring can also be outsourced to Securitas who offer 24/7 monitoring and response services.

Although the StaySafe app is most commonly used on smartphones, employees at Altwood Group successfully run the app on their work tablets.

"StaySafe is a powerful app that runs smoothly and our employees find easy to use"

Range of features, accuracy & ease of use

“StaySafe is a powerful app that runs smoothly and our employees find easy to use” explains Sundeep Dhesi Chief Executive at Altwood Group. “Our staff all use iPads so having a safety device that runs from technology that they already have to hand means that they rarely forget to use it. Employees visit several locations a day so to know when they are checking in and out and to be able to track their location in the hub enables us to know that they are safe at all times, even when travelling between locations. We’ve tried other devices in the past but none have had the range of features, accuracy and ease of use that StaySafe has”.

Don Cameron, CEO, StaySafe Business comments “Employees in the housing and property sectors can be extremely vulnerable as they are required to visit building sites and empty properties, carry out maintenance work and meet with buyers and tenants, often by themselves. Lone workers can be seen as an easy target - in fact research has shown that 84% of housing association workers have been verbally assaulted and 8% have had a weapon used against them. StaySafe Business helps to ensure that any employees who find themselves in danger are able to discreetly signal for help and be found quickly, before a situation has the chance to escalate”.
