The MESSOA SCR515PRO, a long-range ANPR/LPR camera, has been installed at hotel parking lots in Virginia, United States. It has helped the hotel management keep track of vehicle information in the harshest lighting conditions.

Tysons Corner is an important business district located in Fairfax County, Virginia. Fairfax was the first county ever in the United States to reach a six-figure median household income. Also, it has the second highest median household income of any local jurisdiction in the country.

Many people who work in Tysons Corner do not live there. As a result, there is always a ton of traffic coming in and out of the county.

Apartment complex needs a capable traffic camera

One high-end hotel style apartment complex needed to monitor its two open parking lots and one underground garage. They required a traffic camera that was capable of seeing all vehicle details including make and model and license plate number. However, the main challenge with monitoring parking lots and garages is the vast amount of high contrast lighting. A car with its high beams on suddenly entering a dark parking garage can play havoc with license plate recognition cameras. Often the images are washed out and difficult to make out.

That's not the only issue. Reflective license plates and different style license plate designs add further complications when trying to capture driver information. All this can be a killer blow to security personal.

That's when MESSOA was brought in

Since the parking lots and garages were so spread out, an IP solution was suggested. An IP camera solution has many benefits over traditional CCTV cameras. First it meant cost savings since less wiring needed to be installed. Next, security personal can access the camera from nearly anywhere using just a web browser. Having decided that an IP camera was the best solution, managers at this apartment complex now needed the right traffic camera to solve their specific issues.

The MESSOA SCR515PRO License Plate Recognition camera was their choice

The SCR515PRO is a traffic camera specifically designed to capture overviews of vehicles and license plates. This camera is equipped with MESSOA's advanced CatchAll™ II and Lumii™ II intelligent camera technologies, which greatly enhance the SCR515PRO's surveillance capabilities and functionality.

CatchAll™ II gets all vehicle information

CatchAll™ II enables the SCR515PRO to ignore extraneous information that can effect license plate captures such as speed blur, severe weather conditions, non-reflective plates and even different plate designs. Virginia offers over 200 unique license plates to choose from for its citizens. Such a vast array of plates can confuse lesser cameras.
Not so with the SCR515PRO. During tests, hotel management expressed how they were finally able to see the license plate number from all the different designs.

CatchAll™ II also has Headlight Suppression which eliminates high beam headlights and captures crisper, clear images for identification. Also, fog penetration technology enables the SCR515PRO to peer through fog and smoke to recover real color images from foggy or smoky video streams. It greatly enhances the camera's identification ratio by delivering more information-rich imagery.

Lumii II eliminates lighting problems

Lumii™ II is a blend of technology that makes the SCR515PRO capture car information in even the harshest lighting conditions. Wide Dynamic Range, 3D DNR and Scheduled ICR Day/Night Switching are just a sampling of this clear image capture technology.

Wide dynamic range optimises an image to ensure that dark areas are more visible while retaining detail in bright areas. WDR is ideal for scenes where objects are difficult to recognise due to severe backlight or shadows like in parking lots and garages. A typical camera would produce an image where vehicle description in dark areas could hardly be recognized, whereas WDR cameras produce clear details not only of the car but also its surroundings. Scheduled ICR Day/Night Switching prevents car headlights from influencing the camera to switch to b/w or color mode. Hotel security scheduled the camera to switch to color mode at 7:00AM and switch to b/w mode automatically at 7:00PM. This ensures that the camera remains unaffected by external lighting factors and continues to capture images in the correct mode.

3D noise reduction is a powerful method for reducing image noise that produces extremely clear images even in very dim lighting conditions.

SCR515PRO installed in all parking locations

Hotel managers order three SCR515PROs to be installed for each parking location. They felt that the SCR515PRO and MESSOA were more than capable of eliminating their cause of stress. "MESSOA is a well-support manufacturer that stands behind their products not only for the qualities, but also for their service," exclaimed one manager.
