COEX MECH/6 fixed camera stations are included in this solution to provide surveillance of Pump and Engine areas |
Hazardous area CCTV surveillance manufacturer, Synectics, has been awarded the contract to supply a complete CCTV system for the Gannet Alpha Platform in the North Sea by Shell U.K. Limited.
The Gannet field lies 180 km east of Aberdeen, Scotland. The Gannet Alpha is a four-leg steel platform, which stands in a water depth of 95 m. Gale force winds, hurricanes, severe storms can be expected, especially in winter, in an area such as the North Sea. Therefore the structure and any equipment located on it must be designed to withstand such force.
COEX™ FECH/3 Ex d PTZ camera stations were chosen for this project due to their proven record of successfully operating in extreme weather conditions. The ATEX certified COEX FECH/3 PTZ camera stations have been supplied with preset capabilities, and wash / wiper with the self-contained COEX FEWS wash system to ensure clear vision at all times. All COEX products are electro-polished in 316L stainless steel to ensure maximum corrosion resistance which is ideal for the conditions experienced at sea.
COEX MECH/6 fixed camera stations are included in this solution to provide surveillance of the Pump and Engine areas. The COEX MECH/6 camera station is a compact and cost effective solution ideal for areas with limited space or where a specific area of surveillance is required.
This CCTV system will be controlled via an equipment rack containing hard diskrecorders which allow remote control via ethernet to the main control room operating workstation. Here, operators can view and control the camera stations remotely, and access recorded video and incidents. The camera stations can also be controlled via an operator keyboard located in the ICC room.
An important part of the system design was the integration of the camera system with existing third party systems to provide a comprehensive solution.
As part of the supply, Synectics has provided onsite support from a fully qualified and offshore certified system engineer to conduct site surveys on the Gannet Platform to ensure the client’s needs are fully met and the project will be completed successfully.
Synectics’ engineers commissioned the CCTV system in March 2008. Training will also be provided by Synectics to ensure onsite engineers can carry out basic maintenance of the CCTV system efficiently and effectively.
