YC Leisure, a caravan site outside Doncaster in the UK, experiencing security problems with the occasional break-in and a number of stolen caravan hitches needed a new effective security system suited for a very large area, and able to distinguish between wildlife and ‘real’ intrusion.

Initially, the 34-acre site opted for a straightforward solution; it installed visible sensors to warn off intruders and depended on a night watchman (who could only be in one place for any length of time).

The security installer, Advance Security Solutions, was asked to come up with a cost effective solution that could be remotely monitored by the site manager. Given the size of the site, a cabled security system was not a viable option and the installer recommended the OPTEX SL-QFR Beams that provide 100m range perimeter security, completely wire-free.

It only took two days to install, whereas conventional equipment would have involved disruptive digging and trenching around the site, taken months to install, and cost a great deal more. “Not only did OPTEX have the most technically advanced security products on the market, they are also easy to install”, says Mark Davies, Managing Director of Advance Security Solutions.

“The new OPTEX wireless perimeter security system is fantastic for anyone who wants security over a large area of land, which is why I am recommending it to all my local farmer friends. The system pays for itself and is the only one I would use. Peace of mind is worth a fortune and that is what the system has given me”, Jon Goulden, Managing Director of the YC Leisure caravan site.

“Since the new OPTEX system was installed, there have been no false alarms and only one attempted intrusion that, thanks to the new system, was stopped. One evening the system went into alert, I immediately called the police and the thieves were stopped. The attempted burglary could have cost the site as much as £18,000.”

Furthermore, now the YC Leisure caravan site can demonstrate its ability to secure property, it is expected that the insurance company will reduce premiums, showing further and far-reaching benefits to OPTEX’s solutions.

“There are 600 caravans on a very large site where intruders can hide, but with the new system the site is now secure with no need for a night watchman,” adds Jon. “The beauty of the system is that it is almost invisible.”
