Airbus Defence and Space successfully contributed to a safe and smooth performance of the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from 24 to 27 November.
A company engineer monitored the radio communications system of the Abu Dhabi police at Yas Marina Circuit. Consequently, some 50,000 spectators, the organiser, the drivers as well as their teams benefited from the security through the local mission-critical radio network. The race marked the end of the 2016 Formula 1 season. Since 2011, Airbus Defence and Space has offered its services for the Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi every year.
Control room technology
Airbus Defence and Space helped approve the control room system of the Abu Dhabi police at the circuit before the race and gave assistance during the competition. “The Control Room solution is based on the RCS9500 Radio Dispatch Console. It was originally provided by Airbus Defence and Space and comprises a video wall and cabinets”, explains Mika Pakarinen, Head of Program Delivery and Service Management of Secure Land Communications at Airbus Defence and Space. The control room is part of the secure radio network with which the Abu Dhabi Police communicate.
The Abu Dhabi Police requested these support services via the “Emirates Solutions for Integrated Security” (ESIS), a security solutions provider in the United Arab Emirates. The latter is a joint venture that consists of the Privatisation Service Group of the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates and Airbus Defence and Space. Airbus Defence and Space has been active in the United Arab Emirates for many years and provides secure Tetra technology. The Dubai government, Sharjah Airport near Dubai and the Abu Dhabi Police have all benefited from Airbus Defence and Space’s products and services.
