The installation for petrol refinery specialists Naftec saw a Siemens MM8000 danger management station used to manage a range of different sub-systems which contribute to the protection of two harbours and three refineries - Alger, Arzew and Skikda.
MM8000 provides a clear and concise method of dealing with an emergency situation from a single, centralized point and is ideally suited to potentially high-risk sites such a petrol refineries that are spread over a wide area - in the case of the Algiers application, almost 500 hectares. MM8000 displays alarms; messages and the current status of all connected systems in a uniform, clearly organized manner and in accordance with Naftec's security-relevant priorities on 21 workstations located in the site's central security control room.
Integrated with the MM8000 system in this turnkey project is taut wire perimeter intruder detection, CCTV surveillance and access control, the first time such an integrated approach has been adopted on such a large scale in Algeria.
In addition to controlling access for vehicles throughout the site's various buildings, the Siemens SiPass Integrated access control system covers all the sliding gates and turnstiles - some 69 in total - with corresponding readers to facilitate and monitor evacuation in the event of an incident. It also features 10 different access functionality levels, from director level through to security guards, thereby maintaining the hierarchy of access required at such a complex facility.
