The strikes are Alpro’s ANSI-style models which can be used in metal or timber door applications
The Alpro installation includes electric strikes and transom closers

Access control equipment from Alpro Architectural Hardware has been used at a premium residential development on the Dorset coast, the Hutton Apartments in Weymouth, which also feature a ‘time capsule’ left by primary schoolchildren.

The Alpro installation includes electric strikes and transom closers. The strikes are Alpro’s ANSI-style models which can be used in metal or timber door applications. They are 12/24v selectable and have a holding force of 1,750kg (3,860lbs.) The units’ deep jaws will accept a 13mm latch bolt, and electrical current consumption is low at 200mA and 100mA (+15%) for 12vDC and 24vDC respectively. A rectifier sounder module enables operation with AC current. With either current type, the sounder can be set for either buzzing or silence.

The strikes have a simple fail safe/fail secure changeover and are supplied with a six-year guarantee. With an overall depth of 35mm, the cast aluminium body is more compact than many competitive offerings. Ingress protection is IP56 which is of particular value in the seafront application described here.

The apartment development is in the Greenhill suburb of Weymouth. It consists of two blocks of three and four storeys including penthouse levels and rotundas. As the foundations of the buildings were being finished, pupils from nearby St John’s C of E Primary School left mementoes for future generations in a time capsule. The children wrote about their lives and placed toys, coins and memorabilia in the capsule along with a history of the school and items of uniform.

Keith Parry, Divisional Sales Manager at Alpro, said: “The compact nature of these AL110 strikes means that the dimensions of frame cut-outs are minimised and doors can remain robust, making the strikes attractive to fabricators who can use short or long faceplates according to whether the door is metal or timber. The exceptional holding force is important at a residential site as is versatility in terms of the default lock or open fail position should power to the strike be removed.”
